原作虽然是童话故事，但毕竟是“为大人”所写，所以还是能看到很多现实的无情，比如男主的父母，电影中是一见钟情却不得不分开，但在书中却仅仅是一夜情，父亲早就再娶妻生子，也没有最后的团聚。
另外就是电影中，男主和星星一直相守，但是小说的结尾，一个人仰望天空的星星还是会让人觉得有些悲伤。毕竟，永恒的生命就代表着永远的孤独。
